2020-21 Season Highlights
In light of the current pandemic, Jonathan Leshnoff remains hopeful about the numerous major premieres of his music slated to take place in the 2020-21 season. One of the major highlights of this planned season includes the Atlanta Symphony’s world premiere of Leshnoff’s self-described magnum opus, The Sacrifice of Isaac, on one of Maestro Robert Spano’s final performances as ASO Music Director in the spring of 2021. Additional world premieres include a new chamber orchestra overture by Houston’s River Oaks Chamber Orchestra in November 2020 and a Holocaust-inspired elegy for strings by the Bellingham Symphony in June 2021. The upcoming season also includes co-commissioned performances of Leshnoff’s new Piano Concerto with soloist Joyce Yang and the Harrisburg and Tucson Symphony Orchestras and the New York premiere of Leshnoff's Double Concerto for Clarinet and Bassoon with the Greenwich Village Orchestra. Following the May 2020 Reference Recordings release featuring Leshnoff’s work with the Pittsburgh Symphony and the GRAMMY nomination of his 2019 Naxos album featuring the Nashville Symphony, Leshnoff looks forward to a new all-Leshnoff Reference release in November 2020 featuring the Kansas City Symphony performing his third symphony and piano concerto with Ms. Yang.
