program note

This composition is modeled after a traditional, Baroque Concerto Grosso form. The novel addition to this work is that nearly all of the orchestral principals (of a modern day orchestra) have solo parts against the orchestra. Movement one features 2 solo violins, like in a Vivaldi work. Mvt 2 features the cello and principal trumpet, trombone and horn. The third movement features principal players of the woodwind section (flute, oboe, clarinet and bassoon). The final movement features all the principals mentioned aforementioned. The composition has a purposeful Baroque “feel” and an optional harpsichord part is available for additional period color.
